Max Mosely’s restaurant analogy

A lot has been discussed recently regarding Max’s analogy of FIA being the restaurant and the teams being the customers thinking that they suddenly own the restaurant just because they spend the most money!

Some may counter argue that the FIA just provide the restaurant premises and the customers (FOTA) not only eat there but they produce the equipment and the food that makes the restaurant as popular as it is.

I quite like both analogies.  My take would be that the FIA owns the restaurant and the teams (incl FOTA) provide the equipment and the staff.  FOM advertise the restaurant and get the customers in.

Now just because you have great tenants, doesnt mean they should own the restaurant, the FIA have every right to change the rules and get new tenants as necessary if the current tenants dont like it.

FOTA should remember Ferrari are legally obliged to race until 2012, Renault are just a rebadged Benetton/Toleman team, Toro Rosso are minardi, Red Bull are Jaguar, BMW are Sauber and McLaren are Group 4.  What makes them think they are suddenly too big for the sport so that errari can ridicule the new teams?

As Max Mosley says… Let them create their own series
