In with Alonso and out with Kimi?

If Kimi Raikkonen doesn’t join the grid next year as a Scuderia Ferarri Marlboro pilot then it won’t be for a lack of talent, skill or mastery.  The racer is one of the most exciting talents on the grid, so what is it?  It simply is because he cannot be bothered and lacks the motivation.  He is lazy by his own admission, hates the press commitments that that are part and parcel of being a modern F1 racing driver as well as the additional simulator work as a result of the increased restrictions on testing.

What was quite telling was when Stefano Domanicalli was saying how Kimi had a good race yet Massa had a great race.  Hang on a minute! Raikkonen got a podium yet Massa got 4th - perhaps I’m missing something.  There’s been much talk of Fernando Alonso moving to Ferrari and him possibly replacing Kimi.  It’s been said round the paddock that Kimi is simply going through the motions and is pretending to engage.  Quite reminiscent of his last days at Mclaren.

During the 2005 season when Alonso was head to head against Kimi, I hated him as I found him arrogant and nasty.  2007 made me a fan of Alonso as he was David against Goliath to take the title against Michael Schumacher in a faster Ferrari.  I admire Alonso and I can see why he is considered pound for pound the most complete driver in the paddock.

I look forward to seeing Alonso in a Ferrari even at Kimi’s expense.  Kimi’s got his title, time for him to roll over.  I will always remain a fan of the Iceman however.  Here’s a tribute.
