F1 Drivers salaries will take a hit

As any rational economist would expect with teams cutting costs, it would only be a matter of time until the economic measures will affect the kind of retainers drivers can command going forward.  So I dont think Fernando Alonso will not be so quick to aim for the stars and demand $20m for his next contract negotiation.  To be quite honest, with safety standards much higher than they ever have been and the cars speeds being lowered, I conjecture that the drivers are undertaking less risk.

However, we all know that the principle reason for drivers salaries are purely economic so perhaps the market is not only reflecting what the sport can currently earn and operate but is also a happy coincidence of the factors outlined above.
