Looking forward to 2009

I think we can look forward to another exciting season in 2009.  True, nobody could have possibly scripted the finale in Brazil with Lewis losing it then winning it within two laps.  Still this is formula 1 and anything can happen.

We can look forward to a raft of changes including KERS, slick tyres and lower downforce aerodynamics given the banned aero appendages.

I think we can look forward to a Kimi Raikkonen resurgence - the red Baron will be back.  Kimi’s planned winter testing programme will be essential to developing the car Kimi’s way which will be of tantamount importance for the new season.  I think its fair to say that Ferrari made a serious misjudgement trying to develop the car more to Felipe Massa’s liking leaving Kimi in the cold.  Then they decide to switch the car back to kimi’s liking in the latter part of the season - lo and behold - Kimi’s is competitive in qualifying and not just in the race.  As the highest paid Formula 1 driver currently in Formula 1 and a world champion title holder - Ferrari will be back with a vengence.

Fernando Alonso is back!  I believe the stats will prove that he has been the highest scoring driver of late given the Renault resurgence.  Renault now have the permission of the FIA to start getting the engines back to parity and the Enstone team are definitely one of the sharpest racing teams in the paddock noted by their historic double championship winning form to adapt the fastest to new regulations (bar 2007 when the bridgestones were first in), use their race tactics strategy to out wit Ferrari in 2006 and beat Michael Schumacher in a faster car, and just develop the car to rebound strongly in the 2008 season.  Watch this space.

Hamilton will back for more title and the monkey will be off his back.

Vettel in a Red Bull although I fear he wont get as many brilliant results given Red Bull appear to be anonymous in races.

BMW having a  more competitive showing throwing Kubica into the mix.
